A Study of Need Satisfaction Related to the Job of Hospital Nurses

Abstract
|

|
The purpose of this study is to identify the degree of need satisfaction related to the job and the relationship between need satisfaction and the individual backgrounds of the hospital nurses. Porter Need Satisfaction Questionnaire was tested by 120 registered nurses who were serving from May 1, 1983 to May 31, 1983 at Chung Nam. National University Hospital. The data was analyzed by F-ratio.
The findings of this study were as follows:
1. The most satisfied need was social need and the least was esteem need(p<0. 005).
2. The social and security need were satisfied, and the esteem, autonomy and self-actualization need were unsatisfied.
3. The lower order needs of security and socialization were more satisfied than
the higher order needs of esteem, autonomy and self-actualization.
4. The satisfaction of security(p<0.05), social(p<0.05), esteem(p<0.005), auton-omy(p<0.05) and self-actualization needs(p<0.05) were differed by age.
5. The satisfaction of esteem(p<0.005), autonomy(p<0.05) and self-actualization needs(p<0.01) were differed by clinical experience.
6. The satisfaction of social needs(p<0.005) was differed by marital status.
7. The satisfaction of social(p<0.005), esteem(p<0.05), autonomy(p<.01) and self-actualization needs(p<0.01) were differed by educational level.
